Wow so classy, I like it.

Guys, what are these pedals like for something cheap/entry level? by itchybloodin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 0 points1 point ago

I found the exact same set of these as your Amazon link in a fundraiser bin for $5 so I picked them up.

I gave the pedals to my friend since I didn't need them (I use MKS-GR9) but I did use the plastic clips and straps since I didn't like the metal ones I was using since they got bent out of shape.

First time buying a fixie (or any bike, really) by Whitawolfin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 0 points1 point ago

Not really, BD is the only direct supplier of the Kilo (and believe they own the brand).

You can always go for the regular Kilo since the main differences are the crankset and wheelset. Or you can buy the frameset from BikeIsland/eBay and build it up yourself. Or look for a comparable model like the SE premium brew.

I changed my gear ratio a bit lower and it's helped a lot besides just getting stronger legs.

Which pursuit bars are these? by eckmin FixedGearBicycle

Could be the Profile Design Airwing OS. Hard to tell. You could try contacting Leader and ask them since this pic is from their website.

MKS, Allcity, Soma, etc all make basically the same decent product for around $15.

Hey guys, I was wondering what your opinions were of this custom bike website. by unapplaudingin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 1 point2 points ago

There are a lot of companies that sell for aesthetics. Usually they advertise with the word "fixie", "urban", etc a lot and have a different name for each color scheme. These are usually way overpriced and the components aren't very high quality.

Ordered a Windsor Hour. A few questions for other owners. by D2S8FTWin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 2 points3 points ago

You will need allen wrenches (seat collar, seatpost, stem) and a 15mm wrench (for the wheel bolts). Usually, allen wrenches come in sets so you should have a variety of sizes, though you'll only be using 1-2 primarily. You should also make sure your bottom bracket and cog/lockring are securely tightened (may need a lockring tool/chain whip/etc for this). My school has a bike garage that offers tool checkouts and there's also a bike collective that has all these.

For the brake, the longer bolt lets you mount the brake on the front hole and you can use a wire cutter to shorten the length. You don't really need to replace the brake pads right away, they should be adequate and you might as well use them. You can replace them later if you need as they get worn.

Suggestions for a good cycling computer? by getpopularin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 1 point2 points ago

Strava or Cyclometer if you have a smartphone.

Cateye or Sigma are reliable.

Knog looks nice/simple and is easily removable.

Looking to buy my first fixie by udradnin FixedGearBicycle

[–]retrac1324 0 points1 point ago

Yep, cheap upgrades would be getting a more comfortable saddle that suits you and more secure pedal systems. In the future you can easily switch to whatever type of handlebars you prefer and adjust the crankset/cog for the perfect ratio.

Here's some examples:
