So basically economics at its core is amoral. We should not look to economics for answers to ethical questions.

GAO: America has more fossil fuel resources than any other nation. Russia is second, Saudi Arabia is third by contrarianismin energy

[–]joe24pack 1 point2 points ago

It's not a source of energy unless extracting/recovering/refining the fuel costs less in energy terms than the energy you can harness from burning that fuel. All the rest is hand waving and blowing smoke up people's backside.

because deep down in the American psyche is some weird obsession with what other people do with their genitals and an equally weird obsession with what people think of what other people do with their genitals. As for myself, I dont care what other people do and I dont want to know. My attitude is, if you have some odd urge to share your habits and how that, or what others think of it, makes you feel and how you feel misunderstood, repressed or victimized, please don't. It's best if you keep it to yourself. But hey, that's just me.

... and let's be thankful for that. Of course I would prefer if the EPA did not have that much administrative discretion to begin with, but hey that's just the way it is just now.

More Universities Should Shut Down Their Computer Science Programs by tuna_safe_dolphinin programming

Doesn't even have to be microsecond stock trades, it could even be just automation controls for manufacturing or supply chain. Being able to figure out why a particular system in the wild is choking and sometimes taking seconds to do something when a system in the lab reliably does it in milliseconds, is a valuable skill.

It might take the role of a weed out course simply because people realize that they really do not like the subject when you dive into that level of detail and rigor in a freshman class.

Chill man, the point I was trying to make is that Calc 2 is not the hardest math course at university nor should it be. Calculus is about the mathematics of change and/or motion and as such is/should be elementary to physics and chemistry and all other "hard" sciences. As far as more difficult math courses go, topology and combinatorics come to mind. If you're going for CS you should have at least some familiarity with combinatorics. Trust me, it will eventually come in handy.

I think it just points out the duality of our system. Generous public support through various means to the powerful, token (pro forma) public support for the powerless. Of course people will get wound up by that observation based on their political or sociological bent but hey it's the way it is. I'm not saying it ought to be that way.
