Heartland is prominant on many lists of those "pouring billions into the denial machine". In truth, Heartland has played such a minor role in AGW skepticism that it may as well not exist. The driver behind AGW skepticism has been the internet. Skeptics have used the 'net as it was originally intended, to disseminate ideas, share opinion, debate, and organize. The internet was touted as the means by which information and education could be made available to everyone, thereby raising the intellectual acheivement of all. In this case it worked as intended.
