The real conspiracy theory is skepticism exists because of Big Oil, and fossil fuel energy companies. The other conspiracy is that we work with creationists to undermine science just so the church and corporations can rule over the people.

Once we even match the 'climate awareness' budget then you can talk.

Are you saying that the evidence that Big Oil and other carbon-intensive industries have been engaging in a decades-long campaign to protect their profits and limit any future liability that their pollution might cause is all faked?

The Heartland Institute receives money from corporations and extremely wealthy individuals to lobby on their behalf on specific issues. Regulation of CO2 emissions is one of these issues. What do you think the real strategy document for 2012 might look like? Why do you think the HI is funding people like Fred Singer, Craig Idso and Bob Watson? Because it certainly doesn't seem to have anything to do with legitimate scientific research.

This leak is just the latest in a long line of evidence showing how the oil industry is influencing policy to protect its interests. Now, you could say that these corporations are entirely justified in protecting themselves against proposed regulations that will affect their profit margin. But the question then becomes - with the massive profits being made by oil corporations, how can we prevent them weilding their considerable power to establish direct links to policymakers in order to create policies that serve corporate interests rather than the public. How can we overcome the protection of the status quo at all costs in the face of a changing climate? How can we ensure that climate and energy policy is driven by clear, informed science rather than misinformation funded and promoted by special interests?

Again, the real issue that denialgate throws up is the sheer amount of time and effort spent by "skeptics" blustering about irrelevances and refusing to investigate plain evidence of wrongdoing among their own ranks.

You guys are doing a fantastic job of "look over there!", by continuing to talk about the fake memo. Despite the fact that the contents of the memo are confirmed elsewhere by stuff the Heartland Institute confirms is real. It really is working nicely.

However, we don't know for sure the strategy memo is fake. Even at WUWT they admitted that there's not enough evidence to prove either way.

It doesn't really matter, though, because all of the information contained in the strategy memo is contained in the other documents anyway.

The Heartland Institute could provide proof that the doc is fake by allowing an independent party to review the logs of its e-mail server. The fact they haven't done so doesn't help their claims.

One way to deal with this is to consider the strategy memo as tainted, and only focus on the other documents. People on the pro-science side have already stopped quoting the memo to look at the real meat, now "skeptics" should do the same by trying to focus everyone's attention on the strategy memo only...

Okay, you may once again call for me to be banned, I know you don't like "opposing voices"... ^_^

Man, are the alarmists still on about this?

I guess its easy to see why they love it so much, though. It's weak, way over-hyped and the only thing about it that was even remotely compelling required massaging the raw data using deceitful trickery. It hits all their favorite touch points!
